Germany: Police conducts house searches among converts

Police searched houses of German converts to Islam this past Wednesday. They are supposed to have recruited Muslims for an Islamic center in Yemen which is closely linked to al-Qaeda.

According to the Sunday paper, Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, which bases itself on security services source, 19 residences were searched in five states. The main suspect is a German from the south Bavarian town Weilheim, who has lived for a long time in Yemen. Together with two radical Muslims from Freiburg, both living in Yemen, he encouraged converts and other Muslims from Germany to go to a koran school in the Arab country. In Yemen they would have also supposedly gotten military training.
