Denmark: Increase in immigrant voting

While the elections results gave Pia Kjærsgaard reason to keep to a strict immigrant politics, the immigrants themselves were voting more diligently. According to Gallup, 4% more immigrants voted in Tuesday's elections.

Election researcher Kasper Møller Hansen of the Institute of Political Science at the University of Copenhagen says that there's a general increase all over the country, though it is most noticeably in Copenhagen.

According to Kasper Møller Hansen immigrants followed the general increase in voting percents, because there was a chance of a close run. But the nominated immigrants also influenced the increase.

Kasper Møller Hansen says that there were some highly prominent immigrants on elections posters, and from earlier elections we know that immigrants vote for other immigrants.

Just 20 of the about 6-700 parliament candidates had an immigrant background.
